Founded in 2007 by legendary snowboarder Jeremy Jones, Protect Our Winters (POW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit leading the outdoor movement for climate action. POW’s work is led by inspirational snow, trail, and water athletes and also includes brands, scientists, artists, and communities. The Opportunity
The People & Operations Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and values-aligned functioning of internal operations at POW. This role is responsible for managing core systems and processes across administration, finance, human resources, and IT, enabling our team to do their best work in service of our mission.
This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to think strategically and operationally. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a dynamic nonprofit environment and desires to work independently, efficiently, and creatively to support the continual development of organizational systems.
Key Responsibilities
People & Operations
- Oversee and refine day-to-day office operations (remote and/or in-person), including organizational tools, documentation systems, and vendor relationships
- Manage internal workflows, databases, and organizational policies to improve efficiency and ensure compliance
- Support the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, and recordkeeping
- Maintain HR systems, insurance policies, licenses, and legal documentation, adhering to compliance with employment laws and internal policies
- Support organizational development efforts, including learning and development programs, staff retreats, and team-building activities
- In conjunction with the Sr. Director, People & Operations, assist with staff engagement efforts, including surveys, feedback processes, and executing action plans.
- Coordinate benefits administration and staff training in partnership with HR vendors
- Serve as a member of the DEI Committee by conducting research and making recommendations on best practices for internal JEDIA policies
- Foster a values-aligned workplace culture with an emphasis on equity and well-being
Technology & Systems
- Serve as the point of contact for internal tech needs and coordinate with external IT support
- In conjunction with external IT, assist with supporting POW’s team platforms, including training employees on basic use of platforms (Trello, GSuite, Salesforce, Expensify, Slack, etc.)
- Manage licenses and accounts for digital tools (e.g., Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, project management software)
- Ensure data security and document retention protocols are in place and followed
Finance & Budgeting
- Coordinate with finance consultants/accountants and the Controller to track organizational expenses, process payments, personal reimbursements, and support invoice processing and credit card reconciliation
- In conjunction with the controller, assist in expense platform management as well as training staff members on expense processing

Required Qualifications:
- 3-4 years of experience in nonprofit operations, human resources or a related field
- Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with basic nonprofit finance
- Familiarity with HR best practices
- Commitment to DEI and organizational values
- Ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced, mission-driven environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PPT, Word) and Google Drive (Sheets, Slides, Docs)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and support multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent notetaker
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) such as Bamboo HR or other HRIS systems.
- Experience working with remote or hybrid teams
- Experience working in a climate, environmental, or outdoor industry organization
- Experience working in a 501(c)(4) organization.
- Basic knowledge of employment laws and nonprofit compliance
- Experience working with external contractors, including CPA firms, legal counsel, IT, and benefits administrators.
Compensation:
Salary is commensurate with experience, with a salary range of $75,000 - $85,000.
